Supported Applications
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Freehand

Scitex LW
Adobe InDesign

Raster Art file formats

At FlexoCraft we mostly use Adobe Photoshop 5.5 for creating, editing and saving raster files. However any image from any other application will be acceptable as long as it follows the guidelines below.

Resolution

Resolution should be at least 300dpi (at actual size) for CMYK and grayscale and 600dpi and up for Bitmaps and files with fine type/details.

Formats

Format Description
PSD If the job contains spot colors, we suggest using "MultiChannel" mode which will allow colors to remain separate. This format is preferred when the file is not linked to any other layout file. It also helps keep the file less memory intensive.
TIF This format is preferred if the image is Grayscale or Bitmap.
The file size could be very small when saved with LZW compression.
EPS This format is preferred if utilizing clipping paths or if the file is linked to a layout file.
Files may be in CMYK, Grayscale or Duotone mode. This format consumes relatively more MB but it's universally compatible with most applications.
DCS-2 This format is similar to EPS but allows the inclusion of spot colors.
Scitex CT This format is acceptable but not recommended since it is memory intensive.

Vector Art file formats

At FlexoCraft, we mostly use Adobe Illustrator 8 and Freehand for creating, editing and saving vector files. However any images from other applications are acceptable as long as they follow the guidelines set forth below.

Placed Art

  • Placed images should be linked (not embedded), this will allow us to retouch, color correct and control placed art if necessary.
  • Placed images could be EPS format if CMYK. TIF if Bitmap or Grayscale (Do not place RGB images).
  • All linked art should be submitted with the file.

Color

  • Delete all unnecessary colors and keep only the necessary ones making sure spot colors are set to spot.

Fonts

All files containing text should be submitted as follow:

  • One copy of file with text not outlined.
  • An additional copy of the file with all fonts outlined (using "create outlines" function).
  • All fonts in document (printer & screen font) should be submitted along.

Saving Files

  • If using Adobe Illustrator or Freehand to create your design and layout: Files should be saved in AI format or Freehand without inclusion of linked images (but make these images are submitted as stated above). This will help keep files less memory intensive.
  • If using any other applications: Files should be save as EPS.
